Our Verdict:
"What I admire most about Berry is not Berry the great poker player, but Berry the man. He is a deeply religious and devoted family man, who has always been a gentleman at all times."
The words of Doyle Brunson describing Berry Johnston, who bettered his 3rd in the 1985 Main Event to take it outright the year after for $570,000. Bill Smith again final tabled, but it was Johnston who triumphed when his A10 held up against Mike Harthcock’s A8. He remains one of the most respected players both at the table and away from the felt for the way he always conducts himself with the highest dignity and respect for his fellow pros.
Also one of the most consistent WSOP players of all-time, having cashed in over 30 events; also made a rare TV appearance on a World Champions week of Poker After Dark in February 2008.
