Our Verdict:
The identity of 'Halfrek' is shrouded in mystery, but one thing is for certain: he plays a mean game of poker. In the 2008 FTOPS VIII he achieved the seemingly impossible by winning not one but two events for a combined prize of over $850,000. In Event #11 he waded through 1593 runner field to scoop the monster first prize of $342,495. Less than a week later he took down the $2620 buy-in Championship Event for a further $516,925. Never before has one player won more than one FTOPS in a single series and it may never be repeated again. This makes his $30,987 cash for winning the Full Tilt $65k GTD in March 08 look like loose change.
All that is known for certain is that he is Danish, resides in Odense, and is backed by Lars Bonding ('dsavo'). Rumous abound that Halfrek is either Phillip Hilm or Oren Halling, but whoever he is he deserves credit from the world of poker for an unbelievable achievment.
