Full Name:
Sorel Mizzi
Our Verdict:
Sorel Mizzi is the latest online poker legend to get embroiled in a major contraversy. In November 2007 it emerged that he had bought the account of Chris "Slippy Jacks" Vaughn when Chris was down to the last 24 in the Full Tilt Million. Sorel went on to close out victory in Chris's name but both playes were subsequently banned from Full Tilt and their money confiscated for their actions. Whilst Sorel has been lambasted by many for this episode, it doesn't take away from the fact that he is arguably the best online MTT player on the planet. Since starting to play in 2004, he has cashed for over $500K on Pokerstars alone and has secured outright victories in the Sunday Warm Up ($80K) and many of the other toughest MTTs. In late 2007, he destroyed the fledgling High Stakes HU Showdown on Pokerstars winning it 4 times in its first 6 outings (netting an average win of $40K each time). Live poker has also been a happy hunting ground. He cashed for $600K in his first year of play including a 3rd at the Irish Open ($260K) and a deep finish at the 2007 WSOP Main Event. Whilst the Full Tilt episode may haunt him for a while, Sorel is ultimately a very likeable and approachable guy for whom very big things are still likely to follow
