Our Verdict:
Of all the new online generation, Kongsgaard must be right up there with the most successful.
In under 2 years of playing he has racked up over $670,000 in online cashes, and on Full Tilt alone is showing an outright profit of $375,481. Most of this came from 2 monster cashes, the biggest of which was in November '07 when he finished second in FTOPS Event #13 for $261,750. This was after his infamous Full Tilt $1million Guarantee tournament in October 07; he came runner-up, good for $121,588, but lost connection from his Barcelona home while heads-up and was blinded away before he could get back (read here). This has prompted some cynics to say that his internet connection cost him $80,000, the difference between 1st and 2nd (Co-incidentally, this was the same tournament which resulted in Imper1um being banned from Full Tilt).
PokerStars hasnt escaped his wrath either; he collected $35k for a 2nd in the $215 re-buy last December and won $71,425 after finishing 4th in a $500 No Limit Hold'Em event in February.
But what seperates this online pro from the others is his quite astonishing live tournament record, where his lifetime winnings already stand at over $1.4million. 2007 saw him take down a 2-day No Limit Hold'Em Event at the Scandanavian Open ($68,081), the $1,000 NLH tournament at the EPT Barcelona ($140,395), and the Danish Championships in September for $234,174. Not only this but he was making a real run at the EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final before his JJ was busted by Gavin Griffin's QQ when down to 3-handed. He still managed to depart in third for a monster $814,306 pay day.
He is already 4th on Denmark's all-time money list and his 3 tournament wins in 2007 saw him ranked the 4th best player in the world in that department by International Poker Rankings. Having made 15 final tables is also testament to the consistency of Kongsgaard's results.
When he turns 21 and is unleashed on Vegas as well as Europe, it surely cannot be long before Kongsgaard is making more headlines online and offline.
