Pearljammer: PVi Player Profile

Pearljammer
  United States
Full Name:
Jon Turner
Our Verdict:
Poker pro Jon Turner aka "PearlJammer" is a seriously dangerous player on the online MTT scene. Having just taken down exactly $100,000 for second (a deal had taken place) in the PokerStars Sunday Million - it's fair to say the last few months have been treating him pretty well. Recently he has won the $100,000 Guaranteed tournament on Bodog for $25,000, the $100 rebuy on PokerStars for $24,970, and earlier in the year won the $1,000 buy-in tournament on FullTilt for $44,820. Not surprisingly, PearlJammer also has won a Triple Crown (for more on this read our profile on Moorman1). The red-haired resident of Henderson, Nevada has a dangerous and effective style that is quite different from many of the online pros. Jon prefers to play a very 'small ball' variety of poker - tending to raise just over the minimum pre-flop and regularly making bets smaller than half the pot on later streets. This style is similar to the 11-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth - like Phil Jon often seems to frustrate players into making large bets at the wrong time. He also has his fair share of luck, as this hand from the $100 rebuy on PokerStars illustrates, although his record clearly shows that luck has very little to do with it. Jon is not just an online specialist. He has perhaps the best record of any of the online poker pros - cashing for over $380,000 in live wins. The best of his live wins was taking down $72,003 in the Winter Poker Tour Open (WPT) in January this year. But it was in the World Series of Poker this year that Jon really came of age. He cashed no fewer than four times, his best result being 8th place in the very first event, the $5,000 Mixed Hold’em event (Limit/No-Limit), good for $46,633. With career winnings of $664,269 on PokerStars alone it is obvious that PearlJammer is a name to watch out for wherever you are playing. With such a tricky and trappy style it is probably best just to try and stay away from Jon unless you can just get a lot of chips in with a good hand (and even then he will probably hit a one-outer on the river) and hope for the best.
